Healthy Homes

The NZ Healthy Homes standards set minimum requirements for rental properties. These are heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture and drainage, and draught stopping. Our report has been created for landlords and property managers. Furthermore, our report helps them assess the condition of their rental properties.

Why do you need Healthy Homes inspections?

There are minimum requirements for landlords to make their rental property livable for tenants, as per healthy homes NZ standards.

Private rentals must meet the standard within 90 days of any new or renewed tenancy after 1 July 2021. Additionally, all private rentals must comply by 1 July 2024. Boarding houses must comply by 1 July 2021. Houses provided by Kāinga Ora and registered Community Housing Providers must meet the standard by 1 July 2023.

Landlords are responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of their rental properties. The standards help ensure landlords provide healthier, safer properties. Tenancy Services has defined the minimum requirements to meet the standard set.
